Journal prompts from echoprism — seasons
Seasons: Prompts for Turning
The year turns whether or not we're paying attention, and each season seems to bring its own mood, its own memories, its own version of us. These prompts use the seasons as a way to check in with yourself. Write through the one you're in, revisit one you miss, or look ahead to the one that's coming.
Spring: Beginnings
What is beginning in your life right now, or what would you like to begin? Write about it before it's fully formed.
Think of something that's been dormant in you over the last few months — an idea, a friendship, a hope. What might it need in order to grow?
What would you like to clear out, whether from your home, your schedule, or your mind, to make room for something new?
Describe a spring you remember clearly. What did the air feel like, and who were you back then?
Summer: Fullness
What does a perfect summer day look like to you? Write it hour by hour, in as much sensory detail as you can.
Where in your life do you feel most alive and most fully yourself at the moment? What are you doing when that feeling comes?
What is asking for your energy right now, and what do you want to give it to? Write about where you're saying yes and where you might say no.
Recall a summer memory that still feels warm. What made it so, and can you bring a little of it into today?
Autumn / Fall: Letting Go
What are you ready to let go of, the way a tree lets go of its leaves? Write about what it has given you and why it's time.
What have you gathered this year — lessons, skills, relationships, experiences? Take stock of your own harvest.
What does autumn / fall bring up in you: nostalgia, restlessness, comfort, a quiet ache? Follow the feeling back to its source.
Which small rituals make this season feel like home, such as a walk, a warm drink, or a familiar meal? What do they hold for you?
Winter: Rest
Where in your life could you rest more? Write about what's stopping you and what permission you might need to give yourself.
What does stillness feel like to you: peaceful, uncomfortable, or both? Sit with it for a few minutes and write about what comes up.
What is quietly growing beneath the surface in you, unseen for now? Describe it in the way you'd describe a seed under snow.
What brings you light when the days are short? List the people, places, and small comforts that carry you through.
The Whole Year
Which season are you in right now, in the calendar and in your life? They aren't always the same one. Write about the difference.
Which season do you love most, and which do you find hardest? What might each be trying to teach you?
Looking at the year ahead, what do you hope each season will bring you? Write a line for each one.
