The idea behind echoprism — a small manifesto
Why it Exists, and the Arty Farty Bit
This one isn't a study, but more a thought provoking series of questions. Maybe inspiration for a journal entry!
Why it Exists
echoprism was designed as a response to struggles and anxieties, and the app offers a way to turn any type of thought into artistic expression. The primary function is to provide a safe space for users to vent their emotions, and give them a chance to reflect upon them and maybe find mindful solace in artistic creativity. Whilst art can be inaccessible to many, echoprism removes the expectation for beauty, meaning, or interpretable emotion and therefore any judgement.
The Arty Farty Bit
echoprism can democratise art by creating systems that open up the production of art to people that may or may not have any artistic inclination, but still allow them to be able to express their thoughts, ideas, emotions or memories in a way that releases negativity, whilst automating a piece of graphic work that removes enough personal choice that there is no room for judgement from others.
Conclusion
Such systems and work raise the question as to whether or not something is still art if the emotive qualities that are inherently applied in its creation are totally distorted during the production process. That in itself can challenge the idea of what art is — it's not a coincidence that the name of it ends in "ism."
